Linda Beane-Boose, Dean of Humanities at SFCC since 2016, has enjoyed a career in higher education which spans thirty years, including positions as director of faculty development, founding director of academic service-learning, and founding director of language services for the Center for International Education at St. Norbert College, De Pere, Wisconsin. She has experience in faculty development and mentorship, pedagogical innovation, enhancing institutional mission, accreditation, and administration. Linda has held leadership positions in the Professional and Organizational Development Network for Higher Education which focuses on faculty development. She completed a BA from the College of Wooster before earning her Ph.D. in French Literature from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Linda’s favorite thing about being dean is working together with dedicated faculty and staff to advance the mission of SFCC. She loves collaborating with others to better serve students, faculty, and the community. In her spare time, Linda enjoys cooking, gardening, wine tasting, cross-training, and biking, hiking and cross-country skiing in the beautiful Pacific Northwest.

Christie Anderson teaches various reading/writing and literature courses and is the English department's College Literacy Directory. In her classes, online and on-ground, she emphasizes a sense of community with teaching strategies that promote collaboration among class members. Her special interests include equity, diversity, and justice. Working with students at SFCC to achieve their academic goals continues to be one of her particular pleasures. Jared Anthony holds a PhD in rhetoric and composition and teaches in the English department at SFCC. His career as a community college instructor was inspired by his own community college English instructor, “I saw how much fun my instructor was having, and I decided that was what I wanted to do for a living, too. I know community colleges can change lives for the better because it happened to me. And now I get to play a role in making it happen for my students.”  

Zach Bankston is a second-generation community college graduate who strongly believes in the community college mission. He came to SFCC because he loves Spokane and he is passionate about helping students achieve their educational and life goals.

The fourth generation of his family to reside in Spokane, Bradley Bleck returned to SFCC in 2001 after five years of teaching and developing online and computer-assisted English classes in Las Vegas. In addition to his interest in teaching writing with the aid of computer technologies, he has strong interest in British and American literature. His favorite literary figure is James Boswell, father of the literary biography, and his favorite contemporary writer is Irishman Roddy Doyle. Bradley has served in leadership positions with the National Council of Teachers of English and the Conference on College Composition and Communication. His recent work has focused on grading strategies that better foster learning and anti-racist pedagogies for the teaching of writing, reading, and literature.

Carol Dahmen taught high school and college English in Montana and Idaho before returning to her native Spokane in 2013 as an English Instructor for SFCC in Concurrent Enrollment Programs (OCEP), serving students earning both high school and college credits. Her first love was language! Carol believes that "relationships between words and their audiences are powerful and endless, touching every part of our lives." Her favorite experiences are working with students on campus, hiking/kayaking with her dogs in the PNW, and gardening at her home in the country. She writes poetry and enjoys reading it, as well as sarcastic essays, historical and adventure fiction, and the Bible.

Satwik Dasgupta teaches English composition and literature courses at SFCC. In his classes, he encourages transparency in learning and teaching, being equitable and fair to all, diverse opinions, and most importantly, being true to yourself and others around you. Students' success is what matters the most and he considers each student’s success his own.

Cynde DeLauder has been teaching at the Falls since 1996. Before that she taught at the University of Alaska Anchorage and Whitworth University. What Cynde most likes about teaching is knowing that she’s making a difference, as a degree can literally change someone's life. Cynde primarily teaches Literature, Composition classes, and Reading and Study Skills, and she does much of that online. Cynde always says to her students, "Keep reading, as it is something that is guaranteed to make you smarter."

A former student at SFCC, Kellie Fischer returned as a faculty member in 2004 after earning her MA in literature at EWU. She served as advisor to The SFCC Women's Club (AWS) for seven years, which coordinated numerous educational, social, and supportive events focused on women. She lives on a mini-farm on the outskirts of Spokane with her husband. Her favorite activities are playing with her 15 grandchildren, one great grandchild, and visiting with her children and mother. Riding the side-by-side ATV through the fields with her hubby is a close second.

Lisa Freeman holds a BFA from the University of Southern California, School of Cinema-Television, and an MA in English from the University of Idaho. After growing up in Arizona and spending time in California, Montana, Idaho and Oregon, Freeman has been happily settled in Spokane since 1999.

Heather Keast went to college for marine biology and emerged as an English teacher. Lucky to land a teaching position at SFCC, Heather teaches writing and literature courses. Heather's professional interests include learning communities pedagogy, universal design and disability studies, anti-racist writing assessment, and science fiction studies. "What I love about education," Heather says, "is that it changes you along the way. I'm excited to be at SFCC seeing and being part of that change."

Lori Monnastes teaches English composition in courses designed to help students be successful readers, writers, and learners in college. She earned an AA degree from SCC, then her BA in Secondary Education and MA in English in the Public Schools, with an emphasis in Composition and Rhetoric at EWU. After thirty+ years in the classroom, she now focuses on online and hybrid learning.

Lori Monnastes teaches English composition in courses designed to help student be successful readers, writers and learners in college. She earned a degree from SCC and continued her education at EWU. She enjoys the wide variety of experiences students bring to the classroom.

A long-time Spokane resident, Laura Read received her bachelor’s degree in English and French from Gonzaga University and an MFA in poetry from Eastern Washington University. Laura has been teaching at SFCC since 1998, and she enjoys her work here tremendously. She teaches courses in composition, literature and creative writing. She is also a practicing poet.

With the original goal of becoming a writer for magazines, Connie Scott entered a graduate program in professional writing and rhetoric. She taught in graduate school as a teaching assistant and "soon fell in love with teaching." After graduating, she taught composition, creative writing, and literature for 16 years before coming to SFCC in 2001. She is a published poet and enjoys international travel.

Barb Simmons loves reading, writing, and researching with students. If you take her class, you will find her asking you lots of big questions . . . and expecting you to formulate your own answers. The academic conversation is huge, and she enjoys leading students into it.

Ryan Simmons earned his PhD in American literature in 1999 from Washington State University. He teaches composition, technical writing, and American literature, including courses on multicultural American literature and African American literature. He is interested in the author Charles Chesnutt (about whom he published a book, Chesnutt and Realism) and in the influence of fiction on American civil rights movements. He previously taught at Gonzaga University and Utah Valley University.

Jenny completed her PhD in apocalyptic literature at UW in 2018 and has since devoted her time to teaching writing and literature across the West. She loves big questions, local theater, green chile, and opportunities to help students reach their goals.

A proud community college graduate, Barbara Williamson received an AA degree and later earned a BA and an MA in English at the University of Nevada. After receiving her degrees, she taught at UNR and surrounding community colleges. She went on to earn a PhD in English at the University of Nebraska. After teaching at UNL, she joined SFCC faculty. She teaches American literature, as well as film, women's literature, introduction to literature and composition.
